Requirements & Booking Application

Participant Requirements

Participation in Fashion Miniatures in Paris is limited to a small group of 10 intermediate sewists per week, ensuring an intimate and focused learning environment.

To maintain the high standard of instruction and group cohesion, all applicants will be asked to complete a short questionnaire and sewing sampler before acceptance. Your application does not secure your participation, and selected participant travelers will be notified via email upon acceptance.

This helps us ensure that every participant has the experience and confidence necessary to fully benefit from this couture-level retreat.

Skill Requirements

Participants must already be comfortable with basic hand-sewing techniques, including threading a needle, basting/tacking, running stitch, back stitch, darts, pleats, and French seams. While prior experience in historical dressmaking or couture methods is an advantage, it is not mandatory—enthusiasm, patience, and skill with a needle are the true essentials.

*In order for your application to be considered, we would ask you to complete our questionnaire and sewing sample.

Mobility Requirements

The retreat includes walking between sites and navigating the Paris Metro system, which often involves stairs and limited accessibility options.

Participants should be comfortable:

  • Walking moderate distances (10–20 minutes) at a relaxed group pace.
  • Standing for extended periods during workshops and museum visits.
  • Climbing stairs, as lifts are not always available in Metro stations or historic venues.

If you have any mobility concerns, please contact us before applying — we’ll be happy to discuss whether this experience will be comfortable and enjoyable for you.

Application Process

This retreat is designed for proficient stitchers with a solid understanding of garment construction and sewing techniques.

Applications open 9 November 2025 for one week — closing midnight GMT, 16 November 2026

Participants should be comfortable with:

  • Following patterns and working with fine materials such as silk, organza, or tulle.
  • Executing precise hand stitching, hemming, and finishing techniques.
  • Using standard sewing tools (needles, threads, pins, scissors, measuring tape, etc.).
  • Working independently under guidance and within a structured studio setting.

While experience in historical dressmaking or couture techniques is advantageous, it is not mandatory — enthusiasm, patience, and skill with a needle are essential.
